The Shepherds Watch

Traditionally, the Shepherd was responsible for guiding and protecting the sheep flock, guiding animals to safe grazing areas with the help of their trusted Irish sheep dog, checking fences and boundaries, and ensuring sheep were healthy and accounted for. The shepherd was especially important during lambing season, when close observation and quick action were needed to assist ewes and protect newborn lambs from harsh weather or predators. It was a practical, steady role that required awareness, reliability, and a close connection to the land.

The Shepherd’s Rest at Dabrian Homestead draws from this tradition of tranquillity and presence. Designed as a cocoon of calm, the hut invites you to slow down, settle in, and savour the simple pleasures of life on the land. Soft, earthy tones, natural textures, and warm, understated lighting create a deeply comforting atmosphere that feels both intimate and restorative.

One of the loveliest moments here is the morning ritual: brewing coffee and letting the aroma drift through the hut as the farm awakens outside. Step outside with your cup in hand and watch the early light stretch across the fields—animals grazing quietly, the countryside easing into the day.

Inside, a super king bed dressed in crisp linens promises long, luxurious sleep, while the thoughtfully designed kitchenette and intentional interiors make the space feel both cosy and well thought out. Evenings are best spent by the firepit, wrapped in blankets, looking out over Mullaghmore as the sky deepens.

Rooted in heritage and shaped by quiet luxury, The Shepherd’s Rest offers a serene retreat where stillness, nature, and simple ritual come together—an invitation to breathe a little deeper and reconnect with the gentle pace of the Burren.

What Our Guests Say

Our hut had everything we possibly could have needed

Our stay with Aisling was nothing short of incredible! Our hut was perfectly decorated and had everything we possibly could’ve needed. The farm and the views made for such a peaceful experience. Aisling was a rockstar!! She was friendly and responsive and gave us so many great recommendations. We were even able to do a day trip to Doolin and The Cliffs of Moher from here (you do need a car)! It was my first time in Ireland, and I felt like this was the perfect cherry on top to my trip. I would love to be able to stay here again, and again! I cannot recommend enough.

A perfect spot to pause from the rush of everyday life

A perfect spot to pause from the rush of everyday life and explore the surrounding area. The hut was clean and quiet, surrounded by greenery and farm animals. From the large, comfortable bed, there was a beautiful view of the countryside. The place is beautifully refurbished and perfect for cooking your own meals. The young owner is exceptionally kind. It was a real pleasure to meet and talk with her.

It’s peaceful in a way that’s hard to find

The Shepherd huts at Dabrian was the perfect place to switch off. The hut feels modern yet cosy, with a really comfortable bed, a well designed bathroom, and a great little kitchenette for simple meals. The big window facing the fields is a standout feature — you can sit with a coffee and watch the animals wander by. It’s peaceful in a way that’s hard to find. Everything was beautifully presented, from the soft robes to the welcome goodies and fresh milk in the fridge. The location is ideal for exploring the Burren, with walks right from the door and the Cliffs of Moher just a short drive away. Easy check-in, excellent communication, and a level of cleanliness you’d expect from a premium stay. A fantastic option for anyone looking for a unique travel experience, privacy, nature views, and a genuinely restful getaway. Highly recommend!.

Everything you need for a short break

We spent 3 nights in the last of the 3 lodges. From here, you have the best view of the pasture with the sheep and alpacas. As described, the lodge has everything you need for a short break. If the other lodges are not rented, you are also completely alone and can enjoy the peace and quiet with the animals.
